Gluttonous
(an update on writing)
They say January is for
slimming down
drinking green smoothies
making bite-sized goals
that barely fill you up
Clean your closets!
Ease into the new year!
Downsize!
Minimize!
Moderation, yes—
that’s the ticket
But I’m over here HOARDING
Gobbling up ideas
indulging in words
stuffing another dream
in my heart
My hopes don’t fit
in my jeans
I can barely zip my jacket
above my overstuffed soul
I keep adding
to my plate
carbo-loading
my craft
So much for savoring
the words are
s c r e a m i n g
for dear life
Piling up
spilling over
like garlic butter sauce
dripping down the side of
my mind
Wipe the edges clean?
HA!
I keep coming back
for more
What a gluttonous, glorious mess
Spontaneous poems (like this!)
Half-written essays
Underused adjectives
Books (there, I said it!)
Bubbling up
in my brain and gut
the bloating is reluctant
the pressure almost too much
stretching my skin
my skull
Syllables and sentences—
where can they all go?
I cram them in my pockets
of time
More!
More!
More!
Until I’m a waddling marshmallow man
ready to explode.
I wonder what will happen
if I do.

Love this so much!
Such great parallels!!
