A Protest
(stay tuned for a collaborative take on this!)
Hold up a magnifying glass
to the grace
etched into
your days
Do you see it?
Scan
Skim
Squint—if you have to
Study
every trace
It’s there!
It may seem small
(maybe that’s the point:
we have to find it)
A seed
that’s sprouting
the tail end
of a rainbow
a glimpse
of golden light
“It’s the little things!”
we say
with our faces buried
in phones
politics
problems
If it’s true
(and we know it is)
why are we
chasing the insatiable?
Craving the limelight?
Engaging in internet antics?
When the fading pinks at dusk
are what truly satisfy
our souls
In this world
we will have trouble
Jesus warned—
darkness
defeat
despair
If we buy into
the lies
we’ll cave
we’ll crumble
we’ll shrivel up
we’ll die.
But what if?!
Instead of succumbing
to the scum
of the one who roams
and prowls the earth
What if?!
We deliberately
sought out
the good gifts
we’ve already been given
What if?!
We polished our swords
of the spirit
and sliced
the devil’s schemes
in two
pitiful, pathetic
pieces
And accepted
the invitation
the front row throne
to the love
hope
and light
blazing through
that crack
we were brave enough
obedient
to create?
This is my plan
my protest
(yours, too?)
Hope can fill
the holes
of grief
of heartache
of unknowns
We simply need
to notice it
name it
steward it
Hold up a magnifying glass
to the grace
etched into
your days
Scribble down
all that delights
surprises
and sustains you
Choose
to discover beauty
rather than
being blindsided
and bullied
by a slithering snake
who doesn’t even have
a soul
A collaborative take on this protest is coming soon. Stay tuned!

Well, this is beautiful. Thank you for these good words, Becky <3
Well said.
I’m trying to fill my timelines with more of the good.
What if?!
We deliberately
sought out
the good gifts
we’ve already been given, ❤️
